Briefly describe the program, volunteer work, or partnerships you or your organization may offer.
The Boiler Room is a volunteer-operated coffeehouse and social services hub dedicated to providing a safe space for the growth and improvement of individuals. We are always looking for help with programming! Our workshops, free food, hygiene supply distribution, and more depend on community involvement. The Boiler Room is a great venue for open discussion, for organizing supply drives, and for putting in community service hours. We invite proposals for many different kinds of projects.

In 2016, The Boiler Room:
-distributed 19,432 meals through our various free food programs. The Boiler Room is currently the largest distributor of free hot meals in Jefferson County.
-had 82 individual Volunteers participating in our job training program, putting in 3,987 hours behind the counter
-distributed over 6,000 free condoms
-held workshops addressing nonviolent communication, fire extinguisher safety, first aid training, and more
-distributed over 4,000 hygiene products to the community

Our Volunteer Baristas are trained in:
Coffee and espresso making skills
Cash register operation
Correct food handling and basic food safety and sanitation techniques
Customer service and phone etiquette
The importance of cleanliness, punctuality, and accountability
Basic cooking and baking skills
How to ask for help when needed
How to interact appropriately with a diverse and changing population, including the homeless, tourists, business owners, neighbors, and other volunteers

Volunteer Baristas are able to include these new skills on their resumes, improving their chances of finding employment. We also strive to train and encourage our volunteers to advocate for those in need. If you already know some or all of these skills, working at The Boiler Room is a way to help others learn and to stay brushed up yourself!

We also hire for three Coordinator positions, paid at minimum wage for twelve hours a week. These positions are active learning positions, in the kitchen, volunteer coordination, and music/shows aspects of The Boiler Room.
You have indicated an expertise in Social Services and Non Profit
I've been involved with The Boiler Room since 2000, starting as a volunteer, and eventually serving as a Youth Rep to the Board, in all Board Executive roles, and most recently as the ED. I have experience in multiple roles with other nonprofits including Habitat for Humanity, Port Townsend Main Street Program, Northwest Maritime Center, Get Connected Jefferson, United Good Neighbors, the YMCA, Centrum, Port Townsend Rotary, and more. Some of the roles I have filled include volunteer, board member, executive board member, and fundraiser.
